From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be impossible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks retribution.
- Kattigan knows the region and advises that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- Yet, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the team reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in search of Casimir.
What’s Next?
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Questers and Planners tables.
Audiences can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
