Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
